The bulb failure warning light on my 2005 MK2 stays on permanently.  Even when the lights are not on it stays on.  All the external bulbs are OK.  Any suggestions please.

There are a few options in vcds for lights if you have a cable. If you can't see anything obvious I'd start by looking there.

Would also suggest you check theres no water sitting inside any of the lights and try them in combination (indicators and brakes on at the same time for example) as you may have an earthing issue that its showing up. Anything lighting up when it shouldn't is usually down to water getting somewhere it isn't wanted and causing corrosion hence bad contact.

i had the same issue, until I changed one of the brake lights, which even though it was working.. for some reason wasn't providing enough resistance to the canbus thingy mabob....

recommend you go once around to confirm

Sorted - I removed the bulbs from both tail light clusters and tested them with the multimeter, I then reinstalled them and hey presto - the dash bulb now goes out when the brake pedal is pressed.  Thanks to all for your help.

Its likely then you had a high resistance or open circuit connection to one of the bulbs- clean well if it lights up again.

I always lightly file bulb contacts before fitting as they can otherwise make bad contact-
